PROUD TO BE…DERBY

February 10th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

GRDL skaters united with those of other Victorian leagues as one collective on Sunday, to participate in the 16th Annual G@y and L#sbian Pride March.

Some marched, but most rolled under the banner of The Vagine Regime – an international community of queer derby girls and their allies, who strive to build a united front in the recognition of queer and feminist activism.

Co-ordinated by Scarlett Savage for the second year running now, GRDL were well represented by Ruby E Raze, Rai Scar, Flash Pantz and GRDL President, Miss Afliktion, executing a mighty fine performance as banner bearer.

Whist C-curves and slaloms saw all skaters safely down the hill, there was no escaping the deafening cheers and outstretched arms of the crowd vying for a high five from a derby girl or two – not too dissimilar to the end of a bout. There is nothing quite like a pumped up parade to brighten one’s day!
